Be a Manga Master and Join the Manga Mania!
Calling All Filipino Manga Artists to

the 6th International MANGA Awards

The Embassy of Japan is inviting all creative and innovative Filipino manga artists to intensify their imaginative skills and make their own original masterpieces and join the 6 th International Manga Awards.

Now on its 6th year, the International MANGA Awards was established to share Japanese pop culture and to further promote understanding of Japan. It was created to recognize the contribution of manga artists and their significant role in the promotion of manga worldwide.

Manga is the Japanese word for "comics" consisting of caricatures and print cartoons. At present, manga has remarkably reached its ultimate hype and popularity and still continues to influence many comic book artists from around the world.

In the Philippines, Filipino manga artists continue to take pride in creating unique masterpieces that eventually lead to global recognition. For two consecutive years, 2007 and 2008, Filipino artists received recognition from the International Manga Awards.

This year, the 6th International MANGA Awards Committee will give the Gold award to the best manga and approximately three works of merit will receive the Silver Award. Winners will be invited to Japan for around Ten (10) days as supplementary prize for the award ceremony. The Awarding Ceremony will be held in Tokyo in January 2013.

Lately I've been busy preparing for the JLPT as a teacher and as a learner. I felt guilty that I was not able to update this blog for almost a week now. So as a make-up for it, I'll be sharing a study technique/way that might be helpful to Android users who are preparing for the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) Exam.

Yes, Android users, who are busy-body people, that are already relying on Smart phones for more convenience in work, lifestyle, and even in studies

At this time, I can't see myself as a tech geek yet…(or that could be even difficult to imagine XD) but I'll try to explain it simply from what I understood about this Apps that I'm about to introduce now

OBENKYO App Logo お勉強 ロゴ

Once you start-up the Apps it will lead you directly to the Main Menu. As you can see, it's a list of the most essential areas in studying Japanese Language, grouped in categories.

CATEGORY:
-Katakana
-Hiragana
-Numbers
-Kanji
-Vocabulary
-Particles
-Grammar

OBENKYO Main Menu Interface

Each category are paired with "arrows" found at each side, arrows pointed at the left << and arrows pointed at the right >>. Arrows to the left << leads you to list of pointers and study notes for each specific category for study, while arrows to the right >> leads you instant quizzes and drills.

クリストファーcolunbusは何時死んだの?

Now let's understand more about this Application given a tour with the category that most of us loved… Kanji

Access <<, brings us to a Kanji list that is grouped according to the standard JLPT leveling. This pattern goes the same as well with the Vocabulary category. JLPT leveling here is even updated based from the current leveling that is practiced nowadays…the levels N5, N4, N3, N2 and N1. This is convenient for me who are preparing for JLPT, so that we can easily choose our parameter for study. Plus, there is a list of additional Kanji & Vocabularies provided for those who wish for additional learning.

Access << again with the given menu list above, brings us to this Kanji list. Difficulty level depends upon the JLPT level. Below image is from JLPT level N5(entry level of JLPT).

Each Kanji characters' details about its On Yomi, Kun Yomi, sample vocabularies are seen by clicking on each Kanji.

Similar features goes as well for other categories.

Hiragana List

a quick review Particle List

Now back again to the Main Menu for Kanji category access >>. This brings us to where we can now put our learning into application through quizzes and drills.

There are 3 different drills for Kanji: Finding Kanji by multiple choice, Recognizing Kanji meanings, and Kanji writing practice by strokes. My favorite drill is the Kanji writing by stoke because I can get to practice my writing skills, memorize Kanjis, and I can master the correct stroking for each Kanji. This is done with the use of your finger tip or pen.

Recognize Kanji Meanings

Kanji Draw

Similar features goes as well for other categories.

Hiragana Draw

Another interesting feature with this application is that you can get to review back your answers even in the middle of a quiz. You can even get to review back your mistakes and errors along with the correct answers and explanations!

This feature same goes as well with the other categories. (I'm sorry for the bad hand writing XD)

And of course Grammar! As the most fundamental part in studying Japanese… so let's take a short tour around Grammar category as well

フーシックフォールズニューヨーク州の歴史

Access <<, brings you to an everything-you-need notes, explanations, and summaries from the Introduction of the Writing system, Basic Grammar, Essential Grammar, and up to Advanced Topics!(?) Wow… Me myself hasn't even learned that yet! (o_O)

And the contents of each Topic are easy to read and digest quick explanations, plus with example sentences!

And then enjoy at anytime, at anyplace… more Quizes and Drills~!

Also you can even set the difficulty level, number of flash cards, and other settings for easy evaluation on your quizzes and results…

So who says that you don't have time for study? It actually takes only for a few techniques to spend on to find that luxury of time! You may invest on a Smart phone to get an Apps like this (I'm not sure if Obenkyo is made available to iOS users…apologies), or watch lots of J-dramas (learning while having fun) as what my colleagues would also suggest. There are tons of ways to make time for study. There are even different ways to peel a banana!

And this is just one of those ways that I can suggest, and hoping that it can also help you as what it had helped me with my busy sched.

Japanese language study at a finger tip away~
